I have developed excellent interpersonal skills as a result of my work with the RGU Student Union support network helping new students adjust to university life, and while working in retail and the hospitality sector. Work Experience

Softcat, Glasgow, Graduate Account Executive (Present)

New Zealand (2016)

I travelled independently in New Zealand for 3 months and had a number of work experiences:

ICE Angles, Auckland

  • ICE Angels is the most active Angel network in New Zealand, having invested NZ$60m into 102 companies. My task was to implement a portfolio management and reporting system to be used by the group’s managers and members. This included creating the specification documents, reviewing existing off the shelf products and liaising with developers to implement a bespoke system.

  • Look After Me, Rotorua

  • Look After Me (http://www.lookafterme.co.nz) is an on-line market place selling home-hosting accommodation across New Zealand, options from bed and breakfasts, spare rooms, farm stay and retreat centres. I was tasked with modernising and rebranding the site, moving it from a general accommodation site to a higher end experience. This included a reskinning of the site and production of new promotional material.

Npower (2015)

I spent a 6 week internship in Worcester helping to create internal videos and promotional material to aid in Npower’s transition to an agile style of working. I was given an end objective and required to plan the best way to achieve this goal independently of management, enabling me to develop time management skills while interacting and interviewing high level management. I travelled to multiple sites giving me a broad view of the energy sector.

Npower (2014)

As winner of their Future Leaders Competition I spent 2 weeks living with a remote tribe in the Amazon Rainforest, helping to install a solar powered water well and piping to allow each hut to have running drinking water.

USA Technology Tour (2013)

Visited Georgetown Angels and ER Accelerator, New York, Small Enterprise Assistance Fund, World Bank, New Vantage Angel Group and Calvert Social Investment Foundation, Washington DC, PlugandPlayTechCenter, Golden Seeds Angels, Stanford Start X, RocketSpace and Scaale Group, San Francisco.

Oxfam (2011-2012)

Voluntary work in Oxfam shop for three hours a week for 18 months. The most important part of the job was working with the public in a friendly and helpful manner be this on the till or handing out promotional leaflets.

AdvanceToGo, Edinburgh (July 2012)

A new start up internet property management company attempting to be Scotland's first online letting agent. This gave me an insight into the issues faced by a new start up operating a small team under extreme financial constraints.

CUTForm OU, Tallinn, Estonia (August 2012)

A metal manufacturing facility with approximately forty employees, it uses the latest technology to produce high precision components. Helped me understand the challenges of training staff to operate intricate high technology machinery.

Interconnect Product Assembly AS (IPA), Tallinn, Estonia (August 2012)

A company specialising in the production of electrical assemblies (turnover €45m). I gained an insight into manufacturing and the challenges of servicing highly demanding customers at an international level.

A & W M Urquhart’s Solicitors, Edinburgh (August 2012)

A legal firm providing a wide range of legal services. I furthered my knowledge of the legal sector and gained an understanding of the need for attention to detail in complex transactions.

Memex Ltd, East Kilbride (October 2012)

Now part of the American group SAS, providing software based intelligence systems. I learnt about proper documentation of coding and the management of complex projects involving large teams.

Oregon Timber Frame Ltd, Selkirk (June 2011)

One of the UK’s largest independent timber frame manufacturers (turnover £21m). I received a good insight into the opportunities and challenges posed by the adoption of modern manufacturing processes in a traditional sector.

Achievements and Responsibilities

  • In 2013 I lead a winning team in NPower's Future Leaders Competition which challenges students to identify and develop a project to help people in their community live more sustainably. During the 6 month competition two other team members and I developed and implemented an environmentally friendly email communicating system within an Edinburgh School and organised 70 volunteers to deliver sustainability awareness lessons to over 600 school students.
  • Developed a successful video channel on YouTube pulling in over 5,000 views daily and generating revenue of £150 per month.
  • Completed the longest bungee jump drop in New Zealand at 134 meters with 8.5 seconds of free fall.
  • As reported in over 130 newspapers, including Time Magazine and The New York Times, I turned a humble pineapple into a modern art sensation (an interview with Canadian National News can be seen here.)
